2 Ways To Get A Stump Out Of Your Yard

After you have had a tree cut down or fall down in your yard, you are often left with an unsightly stump. You don't want to leave that stump in your yard because it can lead to all kinds of problems, including letting pests move into your yard. Because of that, you want to do everything you can to get rid of the stump. There are several ways that you can get that ugly thing out of your yard.

Fire

One thing that you can do is to try to burn it out. Before you do this, you will need to check with your local fire department or fire marshal's office to see if you need to have permission to have a fire outside. You may need to have a burn permit before you start. You should also make sure that you have a hose or fire extinguisher nearby, for safety's sake. What you want to do is to get a drill with a spade bit and drill several holes deep into the stump. Once you have done that, make sure that you have cleaned up all the remnants from drilling, plus anything flammable around the stump. Then you need to put something like kerosene or potassium nitrate into the holes. If you used potassium nitrate, you are going to need to use some hot water to dissolve it. Finally, create a teepee with kindling and wood around the stump and light it up. Make sure that you have someone monitoring the fire to make sure that it doesn't escape. When it has burned out and the stump is gone, then you can just dig out the remains.

Grinder

There are stump removal tools that will let you grind the stump out. You are probably going to have to rent the grinder at a large home improvement store or equipment rental store. Then you can take it out to your stump and get to work. Some grinders work by you setting them down over the top of the stump and letting them just chew and chew at the stump. Others may require that you start at the side and then work your way in. Depending on how large the stump is, you might end up spending a few hours grinding the stump out.

If you want to get the stump out of your yard, but you don't want to bother with it yourself, you can always call a tree care company and hire them to remove it for you.
